Description

Institut for (X) was founded in 2009 with the mission of bringing an independent, grassroots platform for cultural activities and creative collaboration to Aarhus. At a time in Denmark when most culture was (and continues to be) produced by state-run institutions, Institut for (X) presents a radical alternative for organising and engaging in cultural activities. Housed in a transformed train and cargo station in Aarhus, Institut for (X) functions today as a respected and independent cultural platform for more than 100 members, including artist collectives, social innovation organisations, and creative enterprises. Institut for (X)’s membership also includes many years of experience in sustainable and upcycled architecture and furniture making, local biodiversity and sustainability projects, degentrification, and public-sector collaboration for inclusive, nature-oriented urban development.
